Family birth flower tattoos
How moms combine 2–5 kids' birth flowers into one design — anchor flowers, placements, sizing, and how to test it before you ink it.
Start with everyone's month
List each person and their birth month, then find their flower on the birth flower chart. October brings marigold and cosmos, November brings chrysanthemum — every month adds a different shape, which is what makes a family bouquet read as one arrangement instead of separate tattoos.
Designs that work
One bouquet, tied together
Each person's flower on its own stem, gathered and tied with a ribbon, bow or initials. Best for 3–5 people on a forearm, shoulder blade or thigh.
Single stem, birth order
Small blooms stacked down one stem in birth order. A clean fine-line option for 2–4 kids on an inner forearm or spine.
Wreath or circle
Flowers arranged in a ring — easy to add another bloom later if your family grows. Works on a shoulder, ankle or upper arm.
Two flowers, one sprig
For two kids or a partner: two blooms sharing leaves. The smallest, most discreet version for a wrist, ankle or behind the ear.

Test it before you ink it
Test the whole arrangement temporarily first — check how the flowers sit together, the size, and the placement, then take the version you liked to your artist.

Placement & sizing notes
- 2 flowers: wrist, ankle, collarbone or behind the ear, roughly 1–3 inches.
- 3–4 flowers: inner forearm, upper arm or shoulder blade, roughly 4–6 inches.
- 5 flowers: shoulder blade, back, thigh or ribs, roughly 5–7 inches so fine lines do not blur together.
- Room to grow: tell your artist if you may add a flower later and leave a gap in the arrangement.
- Color: marigold, chrysanthemum and rose carry warm color well; pale blooms often need a soft grey outline.
Combined-month examples
An October + November family piece pairs marigold or cosmos with chrysanthemum — two autumn blooms with similar warmth. A May + June piece pairs lily of the valley's bells with a rose. Mix one large anchor flower (rose, chrysanthemum, marigold, carnation) with smaller sprigs so no single bloom dominates unless you want it to.
Questions, answered
What is a family birth flower tattoo?
A tattoo that combines the birth flower for each person in a family — often a mom with 2–5 kids, but also partners, parents or siblings — into one bouquet, wreath or stem arrangement.
How many flowers can fit in one family tattoo?
Two to five flowers fit comfortably in most placements. Three to five usually need a forearm, shoulder blade or thigh sized piece of about 5–7 inches; two small blooms can work on a wrist or ankle.
Which flower goes in the middle?
Usually the largest bloom or the parent's own flower as the anchor, with smaller kids' flowers clustered around it. Your artist can also order them by birth order down a single stem.
Can I try a family birth flower tattoo before committing?
Yes — start with a temporary version. Build your month list with the family bouquet builder, then test size and placement for a few days before booking real ink.
